Website Updated

I've added a whole lot more projects to my website, tweaked the colour of the links using CSS and generally just tightened it up, so you could say it is pretty much finished. Although obviously I will keep on adding to it with new projects in the future.

Self Promo Ready to Go

Self promotion stuff is really hard to do, because it has to represent you and it has to be absolutely perfect. It's taken me a while to get it just right but I have settled on a design I am happy with.

I decided to use my original business card design from the beginning of the third year, I like how it looks and it is consistent with the branding on my website which I think is important.

I went for a consortia, A5 leaflet to display my work, I think it works well.

The companys I am sending it out to are:

Their all in North East London, because I know I will have a place to stay. All pretty dream places to work as well but I thought I may as well aim high, I don't really have anything to loose.

Website

I have done most of my indexhibit site now, I think it is looking good and I am pretty happy with it. I still need to add a few more projects and change things round a little bit.

Ambassador with your indecision you are really killing me

I've been trying to design a self-promotional mail shot, but I'm finding it really hard, it never seems to be quite good enough and I can't settle on an idea.

I spent an afternoon coming up with this design, playing on the idea of Angus beef in a kind of spoof butchers diagram, but when I had finished I didn't feel it worked and it doesn't really represent my style of work.

So, sticking with the idea of using some king of information design idea to represent different parts of my character I came up with this (below). I think it works much better, it is much more appropriate and represents the style of work I do better.

So now I've got a concept for the front cover I've been having a hard time deciding about format, layout and paper stock and having a bitch trying to produce it well.

I was orginally going to simply do an A5 booklet, but I though this was a bit boring.

So I desided to add a tear off business card stapled to the side, I think this makes it a bit more interesting and reflects my interest in print and finishing techniques.

The photos on this spread keep printing out with a realy red hue.

CV on the back page.

I made some new business cards but obviously if I have a tear off business card on the booklet I won't really need them.

I just need to get the book printed well on good stock and get it sent out now.

Great Street Games

Great Street Games was a project I worked on the graphics for while at my placement in York by all accounts it was a big success. Here are some mock ups of what the event looked like using elements of the logo I designed for them. This is the website where you can read more about it. www.greatstreetgames.org.uk

Self Promotion

My first idea for the self promotional piece was to do a poster with 5 of my projects along the bottom. (blogger has done a great job of reducing the quality)

I decided not to use this format because it didn't display my work very effectively. The images of my work and the main design on the poster fight for your attention, and the colours didn't print as well as I expected.

Here are some photos of design I decided to go with. I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

Its made up of a business card and a concertina folded leaflet with examples of my work. They both fit inside a slip case which is sealed with a sticker.

Fred didn't like the logo I designed, he said it made him think of a "brown rice eating hippy" but I don't agree! It is super simply but eye catching, which reflects my belief that simple design is most effective. It also has a resemblance to a flower, reflecting my interesting in sustainable design and environmental awareness. Thirdly it is made up of three colours which mix to make many more reflecting my interest in design for print.

The concertina fold allows a lot of space to display examples of work.

A couple of the things I think could be improved with this design are the fact that, its not a standard format so it could be fiddly and expensive to produce in large numbers. Its also too small to be sent through the post by itself, meaning it would have to be put into another envelope. If a potential client or employer received it they wouldn't get the impact of an uniquely designed package.
